DNR Biometrician Tyler Harms also told KXCV/KRNW that shotgun season results in about half of the state's annual deer harvest, meaning plenty of venison to go around.

The Deer Exchange is also partnered with the Iowa Food Bank and the "Help Us Stop Hunger" program. To sign up to donate or receive venison in the Deer Exchange program, you can visit iowadnr.gov/deer.

The first shotgun deer season in Iowa is December 5 through the 9, and the second season runs from December 12 to the 20.
